Professional Piercing Practices
We follow professional piercing standards to provide a safe and consistent experience.
- We use single-use sterile piercing needles for every procedure.
- We never use or recommend piercing guns.
- All initial jewellery is selected from our studio collection to ensure proper quality, sizing, and suitability for healing.
- All jewellery is sterilized immediately before your appointment.
- All jewellery from our showroom is brand new, unused, and has never been worn or tried on.
Jewellery Materials
We only pierce with jewellery from our showroom to ensure every piece meets our strict professional material and quality standards, aligning with the guidance recommended by the Association of Professional Piercers (APP).
We offer a wide range of implant grade metals such as titanium, stainless steel, niobium, nickel free solid 14K and 18K gold, platinum, and glass.
Downsizing
Fresh piercings are initially pierced with additional room to safely accommodate natural swelling during the early healing stage. Once swelling decreases, some piercings require a downsize appointment, where the wearable part of the jewellery/post is swapped to a shorter and more appropriate length.
Downsizing helps:
- Reduce movement and snagging
- Improve comfort
- Minimize irritation
- Support proper healing
- Reduce pressure that can affect the piercing angle
- Prevent jewellery from snagging or being lost
Service fee for downsize: $10 (Free if pierced at Ouro). Jewellery costs are additional, starting at $23.
Pricing
We charge a piercing service fee and the cost of jewellery is additional. More on PRICING
Safety Approaches for New Piercings
A successful piercing requires patience, proper care, and temporary lifestyle adjustments. Before booking, please consider the following:
Max 3 Piercings
We limit sessions to 3 piercings at a time (or 4 for two sets of lobes). Depending on the placement, we may suggest starting with just 1 or 2 so your body isn't overwhelmed.
One Ear at a Time (Cartilage Piercings)
For cartilage piercings, i.e. helix, flat etc... We do not pierce both ears in one sitting. This ensures you can sleep comfortably on one side without placing pressure on your fresh piercing (does not apply to lobe piercings).
Jewellery Wear
Initial jewellery must be in place during the entire healing time, with the exception of downsize/upsize to be done by a professional piercer.
Accutane / Isotretinoin / Roaccutane
We cannot perform piercings on clients who are currently taking these medications or who have discontinued use within the previous 12 months.
Pregnancy & Nursing
We do not perform new piercings during pregnancy or nursing due to changes that may affect healing and infection risk.
Support Visits
If unexpected swelling or irritation happens, you may need an in-person check-up, an adjustment, or an upsize (switching to a longer post).
Location Consideration
Please keep this in mind if you live far from Ouro. Certain piercings require in-person care, and we want to make sure you can visit us if your piercing needs extra love!
PLEASE CONSIDER BEFORE BOOKING
Swimming
Avoid submerging fresh piercings in pools, hot tubs, rivers, lakes, or oceans for at least 2 months after your piercing, as exposure can introduce bacteria, chemicals, or contaminants that affect healing.
Sports & Activities
Activities such as contact sports, as well as wearing helmets, headphones, earbuds, glasses, or ear protection, may introduce pressure or increase the risk of snagging to healing tissue, which can contribute to irritation or affect piercing stability.
Travel
Avoid getting a fresh piercing immediately before long flights, international travel, or major trips, as changes in cabin pressure, climate, routine, and access to aftercare can contribute to swelling, irritation, and delayed healing.
Hair Styling & Beauty Services
Consider timing your ear piercing around hair coloring, salon treatments, or styling visits, as chemical products and accidental snagging can irritate a fresh piercing and disrupt healing.
Studio Etiquette
We aim to provide a calm, private, and respectful environment for every client.
Arrival On Time
To keep each appointment calm and unhurried, please arrive on time. Arriving late may shorten your appointment. If there is not enough time to safely complete your service without affecting the next client, we may need to reschedule your appointment.
Guests
To maintain a calm, thoughtful, and spacious atmosphere, the client receiving the piercing may bring one guest into the piercing room.
Photography
We welcome before-and-after photos. During the piercing procedure, we kindly ask that no photos or videos are taken so our piercers can remain fully focused on your safety and experience.
