Children's First Lobes (5 - 9 Years of Age)

A child's first ear piercing is a special milestone.

At Ouro, we want this experience to feel calm, safe, and meaningful for both children and parents. Our two-step process is designed to support your child's comfort, confidence, and readiness, so their first piercing can be a positive memory they will cherish.

For children ages 5–9 years old, we follow a two-step process: consultation first, piercing appointment second.

OUR TWO-STEP PROCESS

Step 1: Consultation (Required & Complimentary)
Your child will tour our space, meet their piercer, learn about the process, ask questions, and explore our jewellery. We will also discuss healing expectations, aftercare, and lifestyle considerations with your family.

Step 2: Piercing Appointment
Scheduled during the consultation for a later date (at least 24 hours later). This gives your child time to process the experience, reflect on their choice, and arrive feeling confident.

Readiness & Informed Consent
Child's Consent First: We require informed consent from the child getting pierced and will only proceed when they feel ready.

Signs of Readiness: Your child should want the piercing for themselves, be able to communicate if they need a break, and feel comfortable lying still on the piercing bed.

Respecting Their Voice: If your child decides during the appointment that they are not ready, we respect their choice and will not perform the procedure. Parents are asked to support their child's decision.

IDENTIFICATION & PARENTAL GUIDELINES

Parental Presence: One parent or legal guardian must be present during the minor's piercing appointment.

Parent/Guardian ID: Requires a valid government-issued photo ID.

Child ID: Requires a valid government-issued photo ID or health card. (A school ID or health card paired with a birth certificate is also accepted).

Jewellery Standards & Requirements
We carefully select jewellery with safety, quality, and design in mind. We follow Association of Professional Piercers (APP) standards and only pierce with jewellery from our studio showroom.

For first lobe piercings, we use implant-grade titanium flat-back, threadless posts with secure press-fit ends.

Initial posts are intentionally a little longer to comfortably accommodate natural swelling during the early stages of healing.

Downsizing (2–3 Months Post-Piercing):
As swelling settles, the initial posts may become longer than needed. At a downsize appointment, your piercer will check the healing piercing and, when ready, replace the longer posts with shorter ones for a more comfortable and secure fit. This helps reduce movement, snagging, and irritation as the piercing continues to heal.

Why Not Hoops or Rings?
For fresh piercings, we prefer flat-back posts because they provide a more stable fit while the piercing heals.

Rings naturally move and rotate, which can create extra friction and irritation during early healing. Once the piercings are fully healed, your child can explore hoops and other jewellery styles.

Lifestyle, Healing & Follow-Up Considerations
Earlobes take approximately 6 months to fully heal. Please consider the following restrictions and travel expectations before booking:

No Swimming: Avoid submerging fresh piercings in pools, lakes, oceans, and hot tubs for at least 2 months due to harmful bacteria and harsh chemicals.

Sports & Gear: Activities involving impact, contact, or tight headgear/helmets (martial arts, boxing, skiing) can snag or irritate fresh piercings.

Jewellery Must Stay In: Initial jewellery cannot be removed during the 6 month healing window (except for professional downsizing by our piercers).

Head Pressure: Over-ear headphones, earmuffs, tight glasses, and hair products can cause friction and irritation bumps.

Travel Delay: Altitude and pressure changes inside aircraft can cause fresh piercings to swell. Consider postponing if traveling soon.

Follow-Up Visits: Healing is a process, and extra support visits may be needed if irritation occurs. Please factor this in if you live far from the studio.

STUDIO ETIQUETTE & POLICIES

In-Room Guests: Only the child getting pierced and one parent/legal guardian are permitted in the piercing room to keep the environment calm and focused.

Photos & Videos: No recording or photography is permitted during the piercing procedure to avoid distracting the piercer. Before and after photos are welcomed and encouraged!

No Group Parties: We accommodate one child's first lobe appointment at a time and do not host piercing parties.

By proceeding with your booking, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to all the requirements, policies, and information outlined above.
